In the community, this leak is known as Teraleak. The attacker reported that he had in his possession the source code for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which was never published. The attacker only provided screenshots of the code. GameFreakOUT also obtained information about future Pokemon games, builds of older projects, lots of concept art and lore documents.

The court filing shows that Nintendo is requesting GameFreakOUT's name, address, phone number and email address. The company insists that the user posted confidential material, not intended for public use, on a Discord server called FreakLeak.

Nintendo has attempted to remove the material through Digital Millennium Copyright Act requests in the US, but has been unsuccessful.

The leak occurred on 12 October 2024. Game Freak indicated that its systems were hacked on 10 October. However, the company said at the time that the attacker only stole sensitive data of employees, partners and contractors.

Such legal action doesn't always result in a trial, but it's possible that Nintendo will still try to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Game Freak is known as the co-owner and primary developer of the Pokemon games, a series that began in 1996 with the release of Pokemon Red and Blue for the Nintendo Game Boy.
